Musicians Jazz up Terry M’s Sunday Lunch

Celtic Manor’s fine dining venue, Terry M, prepares to jazz up Sunday Lunch with an impressive line-up of musicians over the coming months.

First to accompany the award winning lunch in October was resident harpist Amanda Whiting who has played the alluring instrument from an early age.

I started playing the harp when I was 6 years old after being mesmerised by Harpo Marx on TV. After many years of nagging my mum and dad I arrived home one day from Brownies to a little lever harp.

Although classically trained, Amanda is inspired by a range of music and recently studied Jazz at Masters level.

I love all varieties of music from Debussy to hip hop. I have just finished a Masters in Jazz so my tastes have been changing quite dramatically. I think the time and place dictates what you like to listen to and how you perform or are inspired by it.

Having worked with a range of musicians, Amanda’s performance effortlessly creates an upbeat atmosphere with a vast repertoire from Bach to Kylie.  She recalls her most memorable performances as playing with Jamie Cullen at Celtic Manor and recording with pop icon Dannii Minogue among others.

Both performances have affected me positively and made me realise how much I love playing. I also particularly enjoy my work with dementia sufferers and each concert holds special memories. More recently, working with my jazz trio has been great fun and definitely makes me smile.

As a resident musician at Celtic Manor, Amanda describes the resort as her ‘second family’.

I have been at Celtic Manor for 16 years and met so many great people. I love the fact that it is familiar, something which is hard to achieve when you freelance.

Amanda, who performed at Terry M’s launch event, will be returning to the 3 AA Rossette restaurant as part of its new Jazz Sunday Lunch on the 8th, 15th & 22nd December

Also performing as part of the line up on 24th November is jazz guitarist Lee Goodall.

After many years working in New York, guitarist Lee Goodall is in great demand as a freelance musician and also runs a successful recording studio. During his career he has toured and recorded with Van Morrison, and appeared on countless CDs.
